Forest School

Forest School

The philosophy of Forest Schools is to engage and inspire all children through positive outdoor experiences.

At Alumwell Nursery School and Alumwellies the children are encouraged to participate in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and activities in a woodland environment.

Our Forest School is set in a wooded area on Alumwell Nursery grounds and the children will also have the opportunity to visit the Forest School area on Alumwell Infants grounds. It is run by the Forest School leader who has had relevant training, including Outdoor Fist Aid training.

Exploring the Mud Kitchen

During our Forest Schools sessions children will take part in activities, such as bug hunting, making potions for the sneezing dragon, making fairy friendship bracelets, exploring wildlife and much, much more.

We also use tools with the children, such as bow saws, hand drills and loppers to make things like tree cookies and picture frames. The children are encouraged to take risks; however, activities that include tools are carried out with one-to-one supervision with the trained Forest Schools Leader.

Den Building

Children go to Forest Schools in all weathers except strong winds and appropriate clothing is worn at all times.
