Communication and Language

The development of children’s spoken language underpins all seven areas of learning and development.

· Children hear adults spoken language with a rich vocabulary

· Children learn lots of new words in an exciting learning environment

· Children experience a wide range of activities in the nursery

· Children take turns in conversations from an early age to develop their spoken language

· Quality conversations with adults and friends throughout the day in a language-rich classroom/environment

· By commenting on what children are interested in or doing, and saying back what they say with new vocabulary   added, practitioners will build children's language

· Reading frequently to children, and engaging them actively in stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems

· Providing them with extensive opportunities to use and embed new words in lots of ways, allow children               the opportunity to succeed

· Children are supported with their language development by their practitioner

· Small language group work to support children with English as an Additional Language
