Absence/Sickness
Should my child come to school?
Parents/Carers are often unsure whether their child should come to school or stay off due to their child being unwell, having a rash or many other symptoms. Attendance is very important to us at Alumwell Nursery School. Good attendance builds a child's confidence, self-awareness and sets the foundational steps for a positive educational learning journey.
We ask if your child cannot attend nursery due to an illness that you inform us on the first day of absence. There are specific illnesses that children do need to stay off school for a number of days. These are outlined below.
Chicken Pox
5 days from the onset of a rash and when the spots have crusted over
Measles/German Measles
4 days from the onset of a rash
Mumps
5 days from the onset of swollen glands
Whooping Cough
2 days of appropriate antibiotic treatment
Scarlett Fever
1 day from commencing antibiotics
Sickness and Diarrhoea
To prevent the spread of sickness and diarrhoea, the environmental health department has advised us that all children must have two clear days away from school after any bout of sickness or diarrhoea.
48 hours absence from the last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting.
Children can still attend nursery with the following:
Hand, Foot & Mouth
Hand, foot and mouth is a common illness that does occur in children, but there is no restriction period of absence, but we do advise parents to be mindful that this is highly contagious and to ensure children are fit and well to one into nursery.
Head Lice
Head Lice - will need treatment at home.
If you are unsure whether your child can return to nursery, please call the school office on 01922 721 264.
